This calculator uses the marks-based quality point method set out in the UVAS semester rules (UVAS uses the same system as UAF), and it matches worked UAF examples (for example 70/100 = 16.67 QP, 16/40 = 2 QP). Please compare with your UAF LMS result and tell us if anything differs.
How UAF quality points work
At UAF each credit hour carries 20 marks: a 1 credit hour course is out of 20, 2 CH out of 40, 3 CH out of 60, 4 CH out of 80 and 5 CH out of 100.
Your percentage in a course is converted into quality points per credit hour:
- 80% or more: 4.00 (full quality points)
- 50% to 80%: rises steadily from 2.00 to 4.00
- 40% to 50%: rises from 1.00 to 2.00
- Below 40%: 0 (fail)
Course quality points = that value × credit hours. GPA = total quality points ÷ total credit hours.
Worked example
Three courses: 45/60 (3 CH), 30/40 (2 CH) and 70/80 (4 CH).
- 45/60 = 75% → 11.00 QP
- 30/40 = 75% → 7.33 QP
- 70/80 = 87.5% → 16.00 QP
Total = 34.33 QP ÷ 9 CH = GPA 3.81

UAF CGPA questions
How does UAF calculate GPA?
Every credit hour is worth 20 marks, so a 3 credit hour course is out of 60. Your marks are converted into quality points (up to 4 per credit hour). GPA = total quality points ÷ total credit hours.
How many marks do I need for full quality points?
80% or more gives full quality points: 48/60 in a 3 credit hour course gives 12, and 32/40 in a 2 credit hour course gives 8.
What is the passing mark at UAF?
40%. Below 40% the course earns 0 quality points (F). That is 24 out of 60 in a 3 credit hour course.
How do I calculate my UAF CGPA?
Add the quality points of all semesters and divide by all credit hours. Enter your previous totals from the UAF LMS in the CGPA box above and the calculator adds this semester for you.
Why doesn't my result match a normal GPA calculator?
Normal calculators use letter grades (A, B+, B…). UAF uses marks-based quality points, which change with every mark, so only a UAF-specific calculator matches your LMS result. For letter-grade universities use the GPA & CGPA calculator.
